Read MoreIn the last few years, as we’ve seen the rise of anti-science stances among adherents of alternative spirituality, there’s also been an increase of critiques of things like reiki, witchcraft, and everything new age woo as being conspiracy theories or cults. In this episode I argue that many of the current critiques of contemporary fringe spirituality are fuelled by cynicism and contempt, and incorrectly lump everything into the ‘conspiracy’ category, often displaying as much paranoia as those they claim to critique - a hilarious and yet sad hypocrisy. I discuss what I believe led us here, including the death of expertise, lack of discernment, and perhaps the disillusionment of today’s critics.
